Well I did it! I survived the first week of grad classes. This week was beyond stressful, but I did it! My days are long and I’m constantly looking forward to the weekend, but the first week wasn’t as bad as I thought…I guess? I had to read so many articles that I don’t understand. How great. My week is basically work school work school work school and when I come home I do more work. BUT it will be worth it in the end right?
I’m pretty excited for my graduate assistantship. I’m not as nervous as I was before about it because I met with both of my professors. I have to work ten hours as a graduate assistant. My first five hours are with one of the professors I had last year. She’s awesome and has made me feel a lot better about starting grad school. I’m going to help her out with her research that she is working on and I will also help her out with her undergraduate class. The other five hours I will be working with a different professor. He has these videos from Cornell that have groups of people interacting. We are going to look at these videos and see what we finding interesting, etc. I’m pretty excited to be doing real research. I’m hoping this will help me figure out what type of research I want to do. I think I have an idea of what I want to do, but I honestly don’t know for sure. Which I know is normal, but it feels like everyone knows what they are doing. I don’t even know if I chose the right program.
My first week of classes recap?
All I can tell you is that it’s completely different than undergrad already. For one the professors don’t treat you like students anymore. They said they treat you like scholars instead and that we are know longer students. WOAH. I’m a scholar now?! Since when? It was only one week and I had SO MUCH to read. And the readings? I don’t understand them at all. Even when my professors starting going over them I still was confused. Class is also incredibly long and it’s so late. My class goes until 7:50, which isn’t too horrible honestly, but I can’t go to any baseball games during the week! I’m very upset about that. On the plus side I have my own office! I’m very excited about that. I’ll have to share some pictures once I get it all set up.
