Title: China Rich Girlfriend
Author: Kevin Kwan
Published Date: June 16, 2015
This is the second book in the Crazy Rich Asians series. Of course I had to read it immediately after I read the first one. I mean *SPOILER ALERT* I needed to know if Rachel and Nick got married or not! They do. They end up having a simple wedding in California. But of course Nick’s mother Eleanor must meddle in some way shape or form. She flies a helicopter (ruining a lot of the wedding stuff) down into the middle of the rehearsal dinner, causing a scene. Eleanor and Phillip weren’t invited to the wedding to begin with (Nick’s parents) because of how the first book ended. I am trying to not give too much away! Does this scene she causes end up hurting or helping the situation between her son Nick and her soon to be daughter-in-law Rachel?
Rachel is still hurt over finding out about her birth dad, who she thought was dead. She’s been trying to find him, but so far there she hasn’t had any luck. Until someone shows her who her birth dad is, which opens up a lot of questions for Rachel. Does she want to meet her birth dad? Who is he? What is his family like? Do they want her involved in their life?
In the first book it was a look into Nick’s crazy family, but in this book it is a closer look into Rachel’s family. She finds out she has a brother, Carlton. Who we get to know pretty well throughout the book. With her birth dads family, comes a lot more drama and a lot more pain for Rachel.
We also find out a lot more about Astrid and her relationship with her husband Micheal, who has turned out not to be the man she married. And she ultimately has to decide if he is worth all the pain anymore.
This book is just as good as the first one and I learned even more about Asian culture. It is a must read and I really hope they make the second movie for this series.
Back of the book synopsis:
From the bestselling author of Crazy Rich Asians (Now a MAJOR MOTION PICTURE) comes a deliciously fun story of family, fortune, and fame in Mainland China.
Book Two of the Crazy Rich Asians Trilogy
It’s the eve of Rachel Chu’s wedding, and she should be over the moon. She has a flawless Asscher-cut diamond, a wedding dress she loves, and a fiancé willing to thwart his meddling relatives and give up one of the biggest fortunes in Asia in order to marry her. Still, Rachel mourns the fact that her birthfather, a man she never knew, won’t be there to walk her down the aisle.
Then a chance accident reveals his identity. Suddenly, Rachel is drawn into a dizzying world of Shanghai splendor, a world where people attend church in a penthouse, where exotic cars race down the boulevard, and where people aren’t just crazy rich … they’re China rich.
