At First Sight Book Review

Title: At First Sight
Author: Nicholas Sparks
Genre: Romance
Published Date: October 18, 2005

This is the second book to Nicholas Sparks’s True Believer. I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I did the first one. Jeremy ends up leaving his life in New York City to move down to Boone Creek, North Carolina. He gives up everything to be with Lexie and Lexie realizes that, but it is almost like Jeremy didn’t realize all he was giving up to be with her. He is miserable throughout this book and is super annoying in my opinion. On top of all of this Lexie is pregnant. Jeremy never thought he would be able to have his own children. Jeremy was married before to Maria and she ended up divorcing him because he was unable to have children and she wanted to children. But then Jeremy starts to receive emails from an undisclosed person that makes it seem like the baby might not be his. This has Jeremy start to question their entire relationship and he loses all trust in Lexie.

Throughout this book they have argument after argument, but finally they realize how much they love each other and Jeremy realizes that this baby is his, and it is a miracle. However, something happens when Lexie gives birth to their baby. I can honestly say I didn’t see this coming. I don’t want to give too much away, so I won’t say what happens. But the ending was definitely not expected and Jeremy realizes there is love at first sight. I recommend this book if you read the first one because you need to see how Jeremy and Lexie’s story ends.

Back of the book synopsis:

The poignant follow-up to True Believer, a young couple’s love faces the ultimate test in this #1 New York Times bestseller.

There are a few things Jeremy Marsh was sure he’d never do: he’d never leave New York City; never give his heart away again after barely surviving one failed marriage; and, most of all, never become a parent. Now, Jeremy is living in the tiny town of Boone Creek, North Carolina, married to Lexie Darnell, the love of his life, and anticipating the birth of their daughter. But just as his life seems to be settling into a blissful pattern, an unsettling and mysterious message re-opens old wounds and sets off a chain of events that will forever change the course of this young couple’s marriage.

Dramatic, heartbreaking and surprising, this is a story about the love between a man and a woman and between a parent and a child. While the novel picks up the tale of Lexie Darnell and Jeremy Marsh that started in True Believer and will delight fans of that novel, it stands on its own as one of Nicholas Sparks’s most deeply moving love stories.
